An Incredible Beginning-Reading the Word

Sorry Girls, due to technical difficulties, Monday's post is on Tuesday.

The Reading comes from Genesis 1-3.

Genesis 1-- For six days God worked, then on the seventh day He took rest. For centuries, scholars have debated whether the days are literal or figurative days. What is your position?

Genesis 3:7-- What are your feelings towards the sad words, "They knew that they were naked"?

PRAISE GOD FOR A BEAUTIFUL WORLD TO LIVE IN

  1. Mike and I talk about this often. It seems so wonderful and amazing to think about the world being created in 7 literal days! With the entire world (no matter what their religion) running on a 7 day week from the beginning of time still to this day it seems that it is a very big coincidence that God did not plan it and create it in a literal 7 days.
On the other hand, my question is...where do the dinasours come in? We have proof of the dinosours and no mention of any such thing in the Bible. So if the days were figurative, and perhaps a long period of time where God was experimenting to find just the right mixture of living beings, dinosours and the Bible can make sense together. Genesis 1:3-5 And God said, "Let there be light", and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day" and the darkness he called, "night". And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day. This passage doesn't say anything about time. To me it just tells me that he had light and darkness. It has no mention of specific time. It is not until verse 14 that he mentions seasons, days, and years. This is after his mention of creating vegitation...something that is on record as exhisting long before man. This is what makes me pull more towards the figurative speech argument. Talk to Mike though and he is very strong in his feelings about a literal 7 day creation. What do you think?

  2. It's easier for my mind to wrap itself round the figurative speech idea. HOWEVER, I've heard very strong arguements for the literal. Essentially, I'm torn about whether Genesis' creation story is literal or figurative in its timeline. One could argue either way; when I think about it excessively and get confused, I always rest on the fact that "All things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27) Perhaps it's a cop out, but my answer to the timeline of creation question is always that anything is possible with God and that I'll never know it ALL...
In terms of dinosaurs--great point. I've read some pretty cool stuff about it on answersingenesis.org if you want to check it out. There's an article on "dinosaurs and the Bible."
Perhaps since this creation question continues to be brought up in my life, I need to truly RESEARCH and STUDY it more in depth. A friend of mine from church recently suggested I do so...but I haven't felt motivated yet :/
I would love to hear Mike's feelings about the literal 7 day creation. I must say Mike baffles me, LOL....he's all for the 7 day creation but not for Noah and the ark??? ;)
